What happens to what you send me
People often write to me about things they haven’t told anyone else, so I want you to know exactly where your words go and who can see them. The short answer is that I read them, nobody else does, and they’re used for nothing except replying to you.
Who is responsible for it
I am. This site and the practice belong to me, Alexei Janssen, working on my own in Devon, and under UK data protection law I’m the person accountable for how your information is handled. You can reach me directly at me@alexei.co.uk.
What I collect
Only what you type into the enquiry form: your name, your email address, which way of working you’re interested in, and whatever you choose to tell me about what’s going on. That last part will often touch on your health, sleep or state of mind, which the law treats as especially sensitive, and so do I.
The site sets no tracking or advertising cookies and runs no analytics, so I don’t know who has visited or what they looked at.
Why I use it
To reply to you, and if we go on to talk, to prepare for that conversation. It is never added to a mailing list, never used for marketing, and never shared, sold or passed on. When you send the form, you’re asking me to read what you’ve written and respond to it, and that is the only basis on which I use it.
Where it’s kept
The site is hosted by Netlify, which receives the form and forwards it to my email. Netlify is based in the United States and processes form submissions under contractual safeguards recognised by UK law; I move each message to my own email and delete it from Netlify once it has arrived. From then on it sits in my email account, which only I can access.
The film on the home page is hosted on Vimeo and set so that Vimeo doesn’t track viewers, and the typeface is loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser briefly contacts Google’s servers as the page loads.
How long I keep it
If we don’t go on to work together, I delete your enquiry within twelve months. If we do, it becomes part of your client record, which is covered by the confidentiality agreement we make at the start, and you can ask me at any time what that record holds.
What you can ask of me
You can ask to see what I hold about you, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted, and you can change your mind about my using it at any point. Email me and I’ll do it, without needing a reason, usually within a few days and always within the month the law allows.
If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, I’d like to hear about it first, and you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
